Paz Marquez Benitez was born on 3 March, 1894 in Lucena, Tayabas, Philippines. Her father was Gregorio, and her mother’s name was Maria Jurado. Both of her parents were teachers, which grew Paz Marquez Benitez’s respect and admiration for the education profession.

After graduation, she became an English teacher at the Philippines University. As a professor in English, she first published her story “Dead Stars” in 1925. She retired in 1952. Until then, she taught short story writing courses for 35 years.
