From the fresh reports, officials have released numerous images of the incident’s aftermath in the Bristol County House of Correction. The images were posted on Facebook by the Bristol County Sheriff’s Office on Monday. It was posted three days after several inmates at a Dartmouth jail gathered into a protest that resulted in an hour-long standoff with workforce members.
The multiple images show the condition from Friday’s inmate standoff at a jail in Dartmouth. According to Bristol Sheriff Paul Heroux, the incident began at about 7 a.m. on Friday when officials attempted to relocate some inmates in two different units so that they could progress with the remodelling work. They were doing this to lower the facility’s suicide risk by installing toilet plumbing and making repairs.
Meanwhile, some inmates refused to leave the Bristol County Standoff Jail. Therefore, to report this, correctional officers left the location at around 9 a.m. The detainees started damaging their housing units when they left and closed the exterior doors behind them. They broke furniture and used sharpened pieces as makeshift weapons.
During the standoff, the prisoners also came up with a list of requests, some of which included televisions for the cells, increased recreation time, and reduced canteen costs. The staff made a counteroffer in response, but the prisoners burned it before they could read it.
In order to gain control of the situation and end the standoff, police eventually employed tear gas and flash bangs.

According to Paul Heroux, Sheriff of Bristol County, the standoff could have been worse if the staff did not take quick action. He said the institution could no longer house detainees in cells without toilets. And this was a significant contributing element in the incident’s escalation on Friday. They could not have harmed the property if they had been confined to individual cells.
At the conference on Monday, Heroux said the damage caused is roughly worth $200,000 in two housing units. Bristol County House of Corrections officials said no one was injured. But there was severe damage to one that held 75 men, while there was less damage to one that held 63 men. According to reports, the involved inmates have been sent to various jails across Massachusetts.
